Elna Mae Hamblen of Lake Ronkonkoma, NY passed away on June 4, 2019 at the age of 94. Loving wife of the late H. Collins Hamblen, Elna is survived by three of her four children, Collins, Kevin, Dale and Karen, three grandchildren, Brittani, Bryce and Taylor, as well as a host of other family members and friends.
Born to Mae and Gus Hook in 1925, Elna grew up in Massapequa, NY and is predeceased by her two younger sisters, Alice and Delores. After graduating from Massapequa High School in 1943, she started her career as a buyer for Grants Department Store in New York City. Married in 1956, she started a family and managed the books for her husband’s Mechanical Engineering firm. After raising four children in Huntington Station, NY, she owned and managed a travel agency. Active in the church community all her life, Elna served on the alter guild of Gloria Dei Lutheran Church for many years. She was an avid bowler and remained active in her later years. She enjoyed playing mahjong, cards, attending theater, dining out with friends, as well as attending church every Sunday.
