Life Story for Magdalen Brekne

1/6/1922 - 3/2/18

Born on January 6, 1922 in Brooklyn, NY, Magdalen Brekne was a proud second generation Italian American. Her natural mom died two weeks after her birth, leading her and her twin sister to be raised by their Aunt Virginia (their Mom's sister) until age 3. Her father William remarried, and Magdalen was blessed with a fantastic mother and soon blessed again with a brother, Bill.

Raised in Brooklyn and worked in Manhattan in her parents' grocery store / restaurant. She was a graduate of New Utrecht High School and went on to develop a passion for competitive skating.

She merged her love of skating with the love of her life, Stanley. Together, they were National Skating Champions that moved on to marriage, family and the Town of Freeport, where they lived and raised their family for over 60 years.

Life grew better and stronger, with two children, six grandchildren and the best great grandchild. She was very proud and loved them all.

While living in Freeport she was the President of the Sons of Italy, was involved in the Garden Club and founded the Tip Top Tappers for Charity.

She was a wonderful, loving person who enjoyed 96 years of a life full of family, friends and good health. She was sharp and fun until the very end.
