Marisa Insolera’s Life Story

Marisa Castro’s story began in the town of Montrove, Spain in the province of A Coruña, where she lived on a farm with her family. At age six, Marisa and her mother immigrated to the United States to join her father, who had already begun building a home for them in Brooklyn. Their home expanded with the birth of Marisa’s beloved younger brother, John Castro. Marisa met the love of her life, Sal Insolera, in middle school. Though they attended different high schools, Sal never lost sight of her. Marisa worked as a bilingual secretary for Pan Am in Manhattan until she and Sal were married in 1955. Marisa and Sal spent most of their child-rearing years together in East Northport, raising two loving daughters, Luisa and Linda. Upon Sal’s retirement from teaching biology at Harborfields High School, the pair retired to Sebastian, Florida, where they enjoyed volunteering at the Humane Society, and where Marisa opened up her own clothing business with a friend (so much for a relaxing retirement on the beach!). They visited often with their children and grandchildren, Kayley and Matthew, children of Linda and John McGrath, during which time they would swim, eat, and enjoy the outdoors. Marisa loved spending quality time with her family (including her brother’s family, John, Harriet, Ted, and Nora), befriending dogs in her neighborhood, cooking, eating Mexican food with Luisa, and witty sparring with Sal. Her family will miss her warm, vibrant smile, her kindness, her unabashed fondness for pie, and most of all, her calm, always loving disposition. We love you always.
